Announcing...

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, but it is still hard to sit at the computer for any length of time. I have big news...

My water broke at 9:30 the morning of my sister's birthday, and 29 1/2 grueling yet boring hours later, TJ finally made his grand entrance on November 25 at 2:56 pm! At 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and 21 inches long, he was awake and alert at birth, didn't fuss (after his mouth and nose were cleaned out with the suction bulb, that is), and was eager to see and touch everything in sight. He even grabbed his daddy's thumb as he was cutting the cord! He cooed at all the nurses and techs, already stealing hearts.
After a short bout with moderate jaundice and much trouble learning to nurse, we went home Thanksgiving afternoon, where my mom made ham and vegetables and had to feed me on the couch. I had a third degree laceration and couldn't sit up well, and I needed help getting to the bathroom for a few days. I'm still on oxycodone for the pain.
Black Friday saw me in the ER clutching a ziploc bag with a pear-sized clot in it, waiting and worrying for two hours until I was seen. Mom and I both agreed that it looked like a piece of the placenta, but that had been checked in the delivery room and was whole. My ultrasound was clear, so I was sent home with yet another needle hole in my arm. Two IVs, three blood draws, and a failed attempt in less than a week sure leave one looking like a heroin junkie. At the follow-up appointment, I got the pathology results: the clot was indeed placental tissue, but not part of TJ's--it was a completely separate placenta, but without a baby in it. ...How close did I come to having twins? Scary.
I have much to be thankful for with this precocious child, not the least of which is that he's a generally happy baby with no colic. He fusses only until his needs are met and not when he simply wants attention. He falls asleep on his own. He has no physical defects. He has a beautiful smile.
This is my baby.

Ok, Ok!

Wow, I have a readership! And they even hold me to my word!
Ok, ok, it's been 10 days. The OB says I'm 10 weeks pregnant! It is entirely possible I'm that far along, because I really can't remember if I had a period in late February or not. Things were so hectic then that I just can't remember. I visited DH, got sick for a week, went back home, busted my butt trying to catch up in band and learn the marching sequence, and went on tour. I never missed it.
So now I'm on prenatal vitamins and hoping the ultrasound shows I'm not quite so far along, because during the band tour I took a lot of ibuprofen to keep my knees going. I'm craving, sleeping all day, getting dizzy going up the stairs, and getting backaches, but at least I don't have morning sickness!

Where To Start?

I guess I'll just catch up from last month. I went to visit DH for Valentine's Day and got incredibly sick for a week, missing band and work. When I was finally well enough to make the 7-hour drive, I went home and slept for 18 hours straight. It was hard trying to catch up in band, since we had to memorize all our music AND the marching sequence in two weeks. We had a great performance at the local high school, minus one major screwup (at least it wasn't mine). We watched videos of every show to make the next one better. Then we went on tour! Every day on our trip was a show day, five shows total. Heading down to Disney World, we stopped in south Georgia twice to perform. The second show was in a gym on those strip tarps they use to protect the floor--problem was, they hadn't put them down correctly and were trip hazards. Nearly everyone got caught on them at least once, myself included. I almost went down, with a sousaphone on my shoulders! We had a blast in Florida, even though I was so tired I was walking dead. I of course got a pair of mouse ears, with a ring in one ear and a patch on the front that said "Pirate Princess". And of course I went on the teacups and Space Mountain.
While I was down there I got a phone call from DH...

Unwritten

Rarely do I put up videos, but this song really spoke to me today. It's "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield.

I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned...

No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips!

Today is where your book begins--the rest is still unwritten.

Didn't Lose It After All

Apparently I didn't lose my job. I just got written up and taken off the schedule for a week. I'm working tomorrow night for another girl who can't cover her shift, so I'll at least get some money this next paycheck. I think I'm ready to go back to work, even though I hate it. I need the money for my credit card.

Wow

Oh.
My.
Lord.

I am not having kids till I have the ability to keep up with them, 24/7. I know that will probably never happen, but at least it's a goal. I just took care of a 5 year old and a 1 1/2 year old for a few hours during a benefit concert at school, and BOY am I worn out. The little one just wanted to be held the whole time, and the midget had unlimited energy and fell in love with the elevator. We went up and down the stairs to eventually go into and out of the elevator at every level. I'm not even sure this post is making any sense right now because I'm so tired.

Today was my first day back in the military band too. I was so nervous at first, because I hadn't picked up a tuba in 2 years. After we started playing, I quickly got back into the groove and remembered fingerings and songs, surprising myself with how good I sounded. SO! Now there's a new label for my blog. Tomorrow is symphonic band. We'll see how that goes. There's some music in the repertoire this semester that I love and have played before, so I'm excited.

A Better Day

Today is a bit better than the past week. I have something to look forward to tonight and the heat is finally working in the basement. Things are starting to look up, but I'm staying reserved for a while to see how this new medication will work out.

Forgot To Mention...

Mom came home from the hospital on Saturday, and blogdaddy's mom went in Sunday. So, thanks for the prayers, but pray now for RSM's mom, please. Mine is doing better by the day, sounding more like herself but still sleeping a lot. She's doing ok.

SBL 3

(I've been working on this post off and on between sick naps...)

SpouseBuzz Live 3 was awesome! I really enjoyed the first panel. Sarah was as witty in person as she is on her blog, and Toad is just as charming as he can be. I was interviewed while trying to talk to LAW, who was as no-nonsense as I imagined her, and might have been on YouTube with the lovely lady I sat next to if not for the fact that the panel started right when the interviewer started her camera, haha!

Among other cool girls, I met:

LAW
Butterfly Wife
Sarah

I'm sorry I missed you, Homefront6 :( I got a call from the hubby during lunch; he was sick and feeling really miserable, having not had anything to eat and being unable to get out of bed to wander downstairs. He was dizzy and unstable on his feet. That's probably where I got my own cold. At least it hasn't gotten that bad (yet!). As soon as I can get to a better internet connection, I'll watch the second panel online.

Well...

I did it. I chopped it all off. According to DH, I look soooo different. He cried a little when he hugged me and there wasn't a cascade of a ponytail down my back. It was down to my buttocks, so I decided there was enough to keep it long and still donate. It was time.
I went to my friend Vee's stylist as I didn't know anyone around here to do hair, and I was worried about some overzealous hairdresser practically shaving my head. I wanted to keep some length, have hair left to do something with. It's still a little shorter than I was thinking, but it looks good. Sez me.

Library YAY!

Yesterday I found the public library. I took out two CDs and popped them into my Mac, and they automatically uploaded to my iPod. I thought, Oh, okay. I can deal. One was flamenco music from Spain and the other was an hour of windchimes. I listened to it with one earbud in last night at bedtime, and it put me right to sleep. Thank goodness, I've been having problems getting and staying asleep. Last night my problem was DH coming into the guest room (where I go when he's playing video games, since our bedroom is a loft to the living room and it's too loud) and waking me up to go to bed with him. Today I went back to the library, taking the two CDs back and checking out two more and a yoga DVD. We'll see how that one is, since it was the only one available. There were several pilates DVDs so maybe I'll check that out too. BW, what do you think?
The kittens are healthy and happy, learning the word "no" and to stay out of the trashcan. They wrestle with each other and have personalities that are quite complimentary. Jasper, the calico female, is quite content to sit in the window and sun herself, while Max, the siamese-persian mix, is explorative and a bit aggressive in his play. He gets bored quickly, moves on to the next activity, and can return to the old one a few minutes later with renewed interest.
It's hot and muggy today. Yuck. It's been threatening more rain than the little squall we got this morning, but has been sunny in between the clouds all afternoon. I had to turn the air conditioning back on today. Ick.

Things Done

Hooray! The hole in the ceiling is finally fixed! I resorted to telling the office ladies that my parents were coming next week and we needed the room. My parents aren't coming next week, but maybe sometime soon. Anyway, we also got fresh batteries for the squeaking smoke alarm AND pest control, all on the same day! Tomorrow I finally get my credit card, after three tries. I never recieved it the first two times. This time they're overnighting it to me.

Lids

I just put 14 more Yoplait lids in the mail today. Go me!
And check out the Save Lids to Save Lives program! Eat yogurt, it's good for you!

Kittens!

A rare picture of me! Smiling! With our new kitten Jasper!

And our other new kitten Max!

Max is a Siamese Persian mix, so he'll be fairly long haired, and Jasper is a regular domestic long hair, i.e. a kitty mutt. She's so lovey dovey. Max is the outgoing, more playful one. They're about eight weeks old, litter trained and learning the word "no". Being half Siamese, Max is fairly vocal, but Jasper mutters to herself, so we have plenty of kitty noise around the house now.

October

So I'm a little early for October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but having had a mother, several aunts, and several friends go through breast cancer, I say the more the merrier. Go here daily and help give free mammograms to women who can't afford them, and save your pink Yoplait yogurt tops for donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Help me find the cure... so I don't have to fight breast cancer, too.

Scrapbooking!

If you can't read it, that's Charlie Flight at the top, with Uniform Prep being performed on the post dog, Georgia Wing Civil Air Patrol Encampment 2004 Camp Merrill in the middle, Blackhawk Rides below that, and The Wall (rappelling) beside it. I had fun today!

Retail Therapy!

I am so proud of myself I could burst. I took my 40% off coupon to Hobby Lobby and managed to get $25 worth of stuff for $12! I found some pink eyelash yarn with fuzzes on it for Leila, The Guardian's girlfriend's daughter, who *loves* pink, for only 99 cents per. She'll get a scarf for Christmas. The only thing that wasn't on sale was the other skein of funky yarn, which was cheap anyway. I'll make another scarf out of it and sell it for $20. I used the coupon on a calligraphy set that was originally $10. Sweet!

Monday, September 03, 2007

YAY!

I finished it! It's done! It's finally done! DH is sleeping under it now! See my first blanket!

Now to complete the three scarves I have in progress...

New Stuff!

I went to Barnes & Noble today and found the most beautiful small leather journal that I absolutely LOVED... but I didn't get it cause I don't write that much on paper anymore unless I'm writing letters, and writing a letter in a journal is... um... stupid. I have a journal that is less than half full and I haven't been writing in it. Instead, I got an Anita Blake novel and a pack of Himalayan paper and envelopes. I just wrote a quick letter to RSM.
Maybe if I start writing more in my old journal, I can reward myself with a *new* journal!
