I will never again ignore a greeter. I have been one for far too long on Black Friday.
Black Friday, of course, is the retail term for the Friday after Thanksgiving, during which many stores are open for a full 24 hours straight (midnight to midnight) and the parking is nonexistent. Crowds are so thick they induce claustrophobia in people who have never had symptoms. People get crazy over the last item. I stood there for about 5 hours saying hi to everyone who came in the store and attempting to hand out shopping bags.
If you're offered something by a greeter, just take it, or hold your hand up, smile, and say no thanks. Makes our job so much easier, and keeps us from getting down. I'm sure most people who do the same thing don't take it personally, but I seem to take everything to heart. I'm not sure how to stop that.
My back hurts, my feet hurt, I'm tired, and I get to go back again tomorrow. Hooray for the real world.
